Bardanes Tourkos

Bardanes Tourkos
Military commander of five themes in Asia Minor (qq.v.) who rebelled against Nikephoros I (q.v.) in 803. The rebellion faltered within a month and Bardanes ended it by retiring to a monastery. Two young officers, Leo (V) the Armenian and Michael (II) the Amorion (qq.v.), both future emperors, were rewarded by Nikephoros I for deserting the rebellion.
